Re-entry Legal Fellow
The candidate should preferably a recently graduated Law Student. Will be responsible for: providing legal representation related to a client's criminal records, assisting in teaching and supervising student attorneys in the Advocacy and Expungement Clinics, developing the ExpungeTN.org website with county-specific toolkits and an ExpungeTN app, organizing county-wide Community Courts, and coordinating the evaluation of the project and related reports for the grant funder. Specific legal responsibilities include: filing court petitions and motions for expunging dismissals and convictions, representing clients in cost waiver motions and at hearings for Certificates of Employability, and preparing voter registration petitions. Working with legal clinic faculty and staff, will organize and manage each Community Court, working with general sessions and circuit court judges, district attorneys, county clerks, and community partners. Will be responsible for recruiting and supervising student volunteers, pro bono attorney volunteers, and coordination with the local bar and community partners.
