We are looking for an Associate Digital Engineer I to join Best Buy's Enterprise Data Platform engineering team. This team is responsible for delivering the platform and tooling that supports reporting, analysis, and machine learning initiatives throughout Best Buy. Engineers on the Enterprise Data Platform team design and build scalable, high performing data streaming systems that can stand up to peak holiday load. We build solutions that require advanced thinking in challenging disciplines like event sourcing, stream processing, and distributed systems.

This is a hands-on engineer position. The individual in this role will be involved throughout the development lifecycle for the Enterprise Data Platform with the primary responsibility of developing web-scale applications and services along with appropriate automation tooling in support of the platform.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for application development and maintenance for delivering business value online. Follows the software development lifecycle phases from concept and design to testing and deployment

Supports applications in production

Using current programming language and technologies to write web applications, fix defects and support production

Writes system test scripts and fixes software defects when required

Performs overall testing and debugging of applications

Troubleshoots system defects

Completes basic documentation needed to support applications from development phase to maintenance phase

Creates deployment automation and run books for production support.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's or advanced degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field or equivalent work experience

0-2 years related experience; additional 2 years experience without BS/BA

Able to write software applications in both web and service oriented environments using one or more of the following languages Java, Groovy, JavaScript, or Ruby

Knowledgeable of two or more of the following specifications HTML, XML, SQL, CSS and REST Web

Preferred Qualifications:

Any level of experience with building micro-service applications

Any level of experience with Google Cloud BigQuery or any other NoSQL database technologies

Any level of experience with Google Cloud Pub/Sub or any other messaging systems

Any level of experience with Google Cloud Dataflow or any other stream processing systems

Any level of experience in an Agile environment.

Any level of experience with Chef or any other Infrastructure as Code technology

Any level of experience with JIRA or any other issue tracking technology
