Profile

The Director of Technical Design is responsible to ensure that the fit of the garments are commercially viable.  The position coordinates with various departments and factories to achieve and maintain corporate standards for fit and quality for designated product category.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with SVP of Technical Design, Design Staff and Product Managers to achieve corporate standards in both fit and quality
  • Responsible to ensure that the product is commercially viable before being put into production.  If not, the Director of Technical design is responsible to elevate their concerns to the SVP
  • Work with Design in the developing and maintaining standard fit blocks
  • Train and supervise, Associate level Technical Designers in 2D and 3D
  • Work with Design staff to issue initial specs for Proto sample development
  • Measure samples and prepare all paperwork for fit sessions
  • Run fit sessions, identify and analyze problems with fit and construction on live model and or body form
  • Write and communicate detail comments to vendor after each fitting
  • Make pattern corrections as necessary
  • Follow up with resubmitted samples and issue graded production specs accordingly
  • When necessary, review for quality and measure production samples
  • Periodically evaluate TH fit relative to the competition and present findings to Design and Merchandising to determine consistency with industry and to make adjustments as required
  • Weekly PTR meetings with production
  • Oversee a particular category in women’s
  • Work with Technical Designers to regularly review base size specification, grade rules, and figure body types to insure size range meets company objectives
  • Provide tech. team members with work load support during critical busy periods in both men’s and women’s product across all product categories
  • Travel abroad to visit factories or buying offices as needed
  • Oversee fit model scheduling and budget

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in similar role
  • Minimum 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong time management/project management skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must be flexible to adapt to changing needs of business
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to deal with multiple priorities
  • Strong negotiation/people skills
  • Photoshop, Illustrator, Optitex, Browzwear, required
  • MS Office, incl. Excel, MS Outlook
  • Ability to learn custom computer systems
  • Position is based in NYC; ability to work remotely, if needed
