The Aquatics Division's mission is to ensure fun and safe water experiences by providing a diverse range of healthy, accessible aquatic programs that continue our legacy of water safety. This team also works to ensure our aquatics facilities are physically and emotionally safe and welcoming places for individual enrichment and community growth.

We are currently recruiting for one Aquatic Center Coordinators with supervisory experience operating public aquatic facilities. The Department is looking for dynamic leaders who will continue the legacy of safe operations of our aquatic facilities while ensuring the safety for participants and users. We are recruiting candidates with a strong passion for equity and inclusion. Competitive candidates will have experience leading a team that actively works to increase and expand the diverse participation and usership of aquatic programs and facilities.

Job Responsibilities:

Supervises, coordinates, directs, and evaluates the work of the aquatic center staff in areas such as diving, swimming, and youth, adult, and special-needs exercise. Conducts informational meetings with staff, volunteers and swim coaches concerning policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to their specific assigned duties. Investigates, develops, and implements comprehensive staff training in areas of accident or injury prevention, emergency procedures, first aid, lifeguarding, swim instruction, hazardous chemical use, public relations and departmental policies and procedures; and trains and evaluates aquatic staff in the handling of life-threaten­ing situations. Develops and maintains a working relationship with neighborhood and community groups; approves and coordinates the use of the facility by outside groups; writes permits and verifies insurance coverage and certification of user groups; and ensures groups adhere to department policies and procedures. Oversees financial operations of the facility including accounting records and daily deposits; complies with City and State ordinances governing financial operations; develops, monitors and adminis­ters annual aquatic center personnel budget, including cost accounting, revenue, and attendance projections; assists in identify­ing and developing capital improvement and equipment needs and requirements; and conducts capital equipment inventory. Plans projects between various private and City agencies and coordinates the design, construction and use of facility additions, structural changes, and improvements; and develops and implements policies and fee structure for use of related recreation and spa equipment. Complies statistical data and prepares reports on attendance, facility use and budgeted expenditures; evaluates aquatic program schedules; coordinates with other agencies and the community to fulfill their needs; and assures a variety of programs. Coordinates safety inspections and maintenance of facilities and grounds, including the evaluation of the operation of technical mechanical systems and water quality; identifies necessary mainte­nance work; and identifies capital improvement purchases and security needs. Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Physical Education or a related field with two years increasingly responsible lifeguard experience as a qualified lifeguard, including some experience involving pool operation or pool management (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

  A current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification; and a current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate, or equivalent certified documentation. Equivalent certifications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Red Cross certifications will be required within six months for individuals hired with equivalent certifications. The Northwest Lifeguard Preparation Course and Test Certification (required to pass within three months of hire). A Washington State Driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility
