The candidate is responsible for providing legal risk management consultation throughout the health system. Provides direction and consultation to clinical and non-clinical hospital employees on legal issues and/or medical/legal issues related to hospital operations. Researches legal/health care issues. Facilitates risk control activities and risk assessment throughout the system to reduce number, severity, and cost of losses. Oversees and manages the discovery process on assigned claims and investigates potential liability issues. Manages/directs defense counsel on assigned cases. Participates as needed for trial/mandatory and voluntary settlement conferences as appropriate or required by the court. Takes "24 hour on-call" for the department in accordance with department call schedule. Represents Risk Management Department on various committees and at SAE or RCA meetings. Assists Executive Director with administrative duties and day to day operations of the Risk Management Department. Provides clinical risk management/legal advice/assistance to the IRB for human research study subject consent issues. Requirements: Juris Doctor required. Clinical degree preferred (MD, RN, RT, SW, etc.). Licensed Attorney CA State Bar license required. Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management preferred. 3 years Medical Malpractice required. 3 years Clinical experience preferred.
