Profile
Graduate Fellowship Program
The Fellowship Program places new associates from law firms at public interest law agencies in Illinois, where they are typically paid by their hiring firm to work for 300 hours between graduation and joining the firm. The Fellow will work on a wide and diverse range of issues depending on the agency where they serve. Will also work on transactional matters such as policy development and analysis, advocacy, impact litigation and more. Fellows are trained in three core substantive legal areas (consumer/bankruptcy, landlord/tenant and divorce law), after which they work side by side with legal staff, interviewing, counseling and advising clients over the hotline. Work is performed under the close and direct supervision of a senior attorney. Fellows also work at the Domestic Relations Advice Desk, Municipal Court Advice Desk, and Post Judgment Collection Desk (with the same supervision protocol), meeting with clients face to face, reviewing their court documents, providing legal advice and counsel, and drafting legal pleadings for the client to file pro se. Perform legal research and writing on interesting and complex legal questions that arise from client work, and the business of running this not-for-profit legal aid organization.
