    Full-time Staff Attorney – Housing and Homelessness Prevention Unit


  • Active membership in the California State Bar
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency
  • Experience in eviction defense law required
  • Experience in land use issues and knowledge of real property and federally subsidized housing programs strongly preferred
  • Ability to present legal concepts to audiences of varying sophistication
  • Excellent public speaking skills
    • Commitment to working with volunteer lawyers and law students
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
    • Ability to attend evening meetings as needed
    • Must have own transportation, valid CA Driver’s license, insurance and good driving record

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide quality legal services to low-income residents of Orange County and work collaboratively with other PLC staff to serve low-income residents
  • Work directly with Directing Attorney, other members of the Housing Unit, and the Director of Litigation, Advocacy, and Training in a wide variety of tasks involved in complex litigation related to the housing needs for low-income Orange County residents, including where applicable, investigation, factual and legal research, discovery, briefing, witness preparation, and oral and written advocacy
  • Engage in policy advocacy, coordinate or collaborate in policy campaigns with partner community-based organizations, conduct legal research and provide legal services to improve access to and preservation of affordable housing opportunities for low-income residents
  • Handle a case load of individual housing related matters, including, but not limited to matters involving eviction defense and administrative hearing representation
  • Oversee case referrals and provide support to pro bono attorneys
    • Conduct community education presentations to clients, partner agencies, and service providers
    • Assist with periodic compilation of data related to grant funding
    • Represent PLC at legal networking and community outreach events
    • Occasional evening and weekend work required
    • Other duties as assigned

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary dependent on experience; range of $48,000 to $65,000
  • Competitive benefits provided
