Legal Assistant
The candidate provides administrative support in the legal department to Litigation Representatives from the initial assignment to the closure of litigation files. Additionally, provides assistance as needed to defense counsel and other FPI leadership as needed. Serves as an interface between defense counsel and FPI/Edison and between the Litigation representative and FPI/Edison internal support groups. Re-open and re-assign claims. Prepare re-opened and/or re-assigned legal claims so litigation representatives have the information needed before starting review process. Receive and review newly filed lawsuits, subpoenas, discovery requests, and documents on litigated matters. Prepare and organize claim files to ensure all proper documentation is sent timely to defense counsel for review. Provide administrative assistance and support on daily file handling to Litigation Representatives and defense counsel. Serves as liaison between litigation representatives working remote and all FPI/Edison departments within the office. Perform research and data analysis to assist litigation representatives during litigation the litigation process and after. Review and attach correspondences, reports, and miscellaneous items to our claims system. Process void and re-issues, UW requests, ISO requests, and respond to mortgage company inquiries regarding estimates and settlement payments. Prepare, organize, and process legal settlement payments to ensure proper documentation, reserves, mortgage information, and closing reports are submitted correctly and on time. Advises litigation representatives and defense counsel on the companys best practices for managing legal payments. Process legal checks requests according to our accounting department protocols. Serves as a primary hands-on administrative and technical expert, performing data intake and manipulation of tasks efficiently and effectively. Maintain, monitor, and coordinate calendar/scheduling of EUOs, CRNs and trials. Complete monthly reports for management and assist with special projects. LSS (legal bill review). Answer inquiries regarding various legal matters and legal billing from outside sources. Associate diploma required. Minimum (5) years of administrative experience. 620 license preferred, 4-year College Degree preferred. Insurance carrier experience a plus. Paralegal experience a plus. Excellent communication, organizational, technical writing, and interpersonal skills. Strong service orientation and ability to develop effective working relationships with others. Strong business etiquette including workplace etiquette, professionalism, and communication etiquette. Proactive and resourceful Ability to propose solutions to complex situations. Ability to prioritize according to workflow and work under pressure. Experience performing research, document collection, and inventory.
