Profile

Description:

The UKCRC-registered Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU) at the University of Plymouth provides multi-disciplinary academic support to researchers and clinicians for the design and conduct of high quality clinical trials and other well designed research studies. With a growing portfolio of studies, funded by the NIHR and other major non-commercial research funding bodies, we currently have an exciting opportunity to get involved with clinical trials. We now have a vacancy for Trial Manager to join the successful trial management team within the PenCTU. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with substantial clinical trials management experience to join a CTU that has retained full registration status from the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) since 2007. PenCTU has a growing portfolio of studies funded by the NIHR and other major non-commercial research funding bodies. We are looking for a suitably experienced person, with energy and enthusiasm to grasp new opportunities and help shape the future of the PenCTU within a committed team. You will work closely with a team of trial managers, data managers, programmers, statisticians, other methodologists and clinicians to develop and manage a portfolio of clinical studies on behalf of investigators across the South West peninsula and further afield. You must have a good knowledge of all stages in the life cycle of clinical trials with substantial recent experience in the central management of randomised controlled trials, preferably within an academic environment. Experience of managing trials of investigational medicinal products and/or trials of complex interventions would be particularly beneficial. A detailed knowledge of NHS research governance and the regulatory requirements governing the conduct of clinical trials in the UK is essential, along with a good understanding of NHS research infrastructure and funding. You should be educated to degree level, preferably with evidence of post-graduate study. You will write fluently, have excellent oral communication skills, be highly organised, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and be able to prioritise your workload. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential. The PenCTU is based within the Faculty of Health at the University of Plymouth. The post is based at the University of Plymouth’s North Campus at the Plymouth Science Park, Derriford, Plymouth. This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis. We are open to applications for full or part time hours and can support various models of remote working. Since the role includes monitoring of investigator sites, mobility to travel is essential. For an informal discussion about the post or the hours please contact Wendy Ingram (wendy.ingram@plymouth.ac.uk). Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. Interviews are likely to take place on Monday 31st January 2022 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not. We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities. A successful external candidate for this position would be employed by the University of Plymouth Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Plymouth. Employees of the University of Plymouth Services Limited work alongside the University of Plymouth colleagues in delivery of Plymouth’s strategic vision, and will adopt the University of Plymouth’s HR policies and procedures in full unless otherwise stated.
