Assistant Attorney General III-IV
Duties: Performs complex (journey-level) legal work. Work involves providing legal advice, counsel, and assistance; representing the State’s interest in civil and criminal matters; reviewing, evaluating, and rendering legal opinions; preparing legal documentation; and assisting in drafting bills and amendments for legislative consideration. Performs independent investigations, including evaluating evidence and interviewing victims, witnesses, medical professionals, and law enforcement officers in order to conduct final ruling hearings and make final determinations based on relevant laws, rules, and policies. Researches legal matters and interprets and applies laws, including drafting memos, correspondence, and reports of conclusions that are relevant to the OAG’s administration of the division. Drafts bills and amendments for legislative consideration. Assists with management and operation of legal section of CVSD, including processing of open records requests and subpoenas, and providing technical guidance to staff on legal matters. Performs case reviews and legal analysis for third party litigation. Communicates with civil attorneys regarding CVC’s statutory subrogation interest. Assists in preparation of pre- and post- trial documents and provides legal advice and assistance in lawsuits arising from dissatisfaction of compensation claim decisions. Assists in division compliance with the Pubic Information Act. Performs related work as assigned. Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions. Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information. Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
