Overview

We seek a collaborative, constructive, inter-disciplinary computational scientist to deliver novel hypotheses for patient benefit in collaboration with the Immuno-oncology and Cell Therapy (IOCT) Thematic Research Center based in Seattle. This person will play a key scientific role by investigating single cell data integrated with other key data assets across the company and leveraging innovative computational research strategies and rich patient data to empower data-driven decisions.

Applications range from providing predictive, original, and practical insights into therapeutic mechanisms of action for existing and novel therapies, or combinations, at the pre-clinical stage and as they transition into clinic; identifying and leveraging patient phenotypes associated with therapeutic effect in key indications; and discovering molecular biomarker hypotheses. Analysis scenarios will involve output from a wide range of innovative cell-molecular profiling platforms.

The position would suit a person with excellent communication and collaboration skills who is able to work on large cross functional teams and in an environment with many computational scientists with diverse backgrounds. Applications are encouraged from those involved in immune oncology research in clinical or industrial environments. The role offers the opportunity to impact directly the delivery of truly transformational and life-changing therapies in key diseases of unmet medical need.

Responsibilities

Working in collaboration with computational, biological and clinical scientists across the BMS Research and Early Development organization, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Multi-disciplinary individual contributor to decipher immune, stromal and tumor cellular states and disease properties using published methods or creating novel methods, to impact the discovery research and translational process for patient benefit.

Committed participation as a member in the IOCT Predictive Sciences team in IPS and closely collaborating with BMS computational scientists across IPS, locally and globally.

Ability to work and reach out across diverse teams and departments in a mutually productive fashion with many shared objectives.

Analyze single cell and bulk transcriptome data, along with other key datasets such as cytometry or imaging, from patient samples before and after treatment to inform target discovery, novel combinations, disease subtypes and drug mode of action.

Participation in and oversight of scientific report writing. Presentation of methods, results and conclusions to a publishable standard, primarily for internal audiences.

Contribution to planning and execution of collaborative projects with outstanding academic and commercial research groups worldwide.

Pursuit and guidance of pioneering computational biology research towards key scientific objectives.

Background experience & complementary knowledge

A Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related field from a recognized higher-education establishment.

9 years post-doctoral experience of inter-disciplinary computational and molecular biomarker research in university, hospital or biotechnology environments.

3 years in pharma/biotech research environment preferable.

Within the field of data science, strong and applied knowledge required in predictive analytics, clinical statistics or machine learning.

Track record of peer-reviewed publication in relevant scientific journals.

Deep expertise in algorithmic implementation, statistical programming and data manipulation, using e.g. R/Bioconductor, Python, and contemporary, open-source bioinformatics tools and database structures.

Proven problem-solving skills, collaborative and constructive nature and adaptability across disciplines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent verbal and written English language skills prerequisite.

Bristol-Myers Squibb recognizes the importance of balance and flexibility in our work environment. We offer a wide variety of competitive benefits, services and programs that provide our employees the resources to pursue their goals, both at work and in their personal lives.
