Scholastic is seeking a Junior Designer to assist the Children’s Licensing Trade Art Department, and help with the design of licensed book covers, interiors, and products for the school market (book clubs and fairs.)
Create mechanicals in accordance to the printer’s specifications.
Work with electronic file management and be responsible for archiving projects.
Manage the design and production of approximately 20 titles/products per year, working closely with the Editor.
Work alongside the other designers to communicate with illustrators, give art direction to freelancers or artists, and work with production through proofing process and color correction up until the finished book.
Assist the designers in the art department to keep the workflow moving efficiently by: filing, downloading assets and style guides, routing mechanicals and proofs to other groups involved, making mock-ups or presentations, handling artist submissions, creating or revising mechanicals, organizing and updating illustrator lists and series templates.
Capable of handling original artwork.
HOW YOU CAN FIT
Minimum 1-2 years as a Design Assistant in an Art Department, or a completed internship in a publishing art department, preferably in Children’s Books.
Be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator).
Must be able to multi-task and have a go-getter spirit and easy-going attitude!
Be a college graduate, art school design degree preferred.
Previous experience hiring illustrators and working with artist reps a plus.
