Senior Corporate Counsel, Employment Law

The candidate will be responsible for: Develop a deep understanding of the Company’s business and products and the applicable industry developments and requirements. Draft, review in conjunction with the Human Resources team employment-related agreements, and work on a wide variety of Human Resources projects. Provide advice to the HR team on employment matters, including, e.g., wage and hour compliance, disability accommodations, involuntary terminations, reductions in force, leaves of absence, employment law training for managers, sensitive misconduct investigations, and general risk assessments. Work collaboratively with a broad range of people and departments throughout the organization to develop and maintain strong working relationships between Legal, HR, Finance, IT, Security, Internal Audit, and operational groups, utilizing a team-based approach. Engage with outside counsel to effectively resolve threatened or outstanding employment litigation matters and to establish best practices for prevention of matters. Establish a rapport and working relationship with business partners in order to encourage and continue the proactive use of in-house legal counsel. Understand and be able to translate into “plain English” the legal ramifications of varied legal issues (including regulatory requirements) and clearly and succinctly articulate the risks. Should have 5 years' applicable firm and in-house legal experience, with 2+ years at a law firm desired. Significant substantive expertise in US employment law (MN, CO and/or CA specifically) required. Must have ability to review, understand, analyze, and interpret employment agreements. Contract drafting and negotiating experience required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Should have JD and current membership. International employment law experience a plus.
