National Louis University’s Undergraduate College is seeking Field Coaches: Early Childhood and Elementary Education

to join our team, beginning in Fall Term (September 2020)

We are a team of dedicated educators who have been working together to build an amazing new Instructional Model that supports first-generation students with a focus on the holistic student. This undergraduate experience is in its fourth year serving students at National Louis University. We have grown consistently each year and this year we serve almost two thousand students, with an anticipated 600 new Freshmen next year! We work fearlessly to educate and retain our students. As a result, we have exceeded national benchmarks through our approach to appreciative advising and data-driven, personalized instruction. Our educational model is student-focused, expects excellence, provides personalized support in a data-driven environment, while grounded by pillars of continuous improvement and innovation to structure our work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Meet regularly with students and observe them in the classroom setting focusing on a student’s dispositional development as a novice teacher.

Provide supports to students through coaching by using a strengths based approach to learning.

If appropriate for the experience, observe student teaching a lesson to children, providing verbal and written feedback to the student afterwards, focusing on coaching for improved performance as opposed to “rating” or “supervising” the student in the field.

Complete a mid-term and final Field Appraisal on the student during each term that student is coached.

Attend university meetings

Collaborate with faculty team to develop an effective student experience for students.

Empower students to develop competency by sharing a passion for the subject and skills being taught.

Communicate professionally and relate well to others.

Maintain current knowledge of field.

Identify gaps between student needs and existing resources and services; generate creative resolutions.

Skills

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

5 years’ experience teaching in one or more of the following areas:

ECE

Pre-K,

ECE

K-2,

ELE

Grades 1-6, Special Education

Content area expertise in one or more of the following areas: Pre-K curriculum and content, grades 1-6 literacy/reading, grades 1-6 math, grades 1-6 science, grades 1-6 social studies

5 years experience working as a coach or mentor with novice teachers

Extensive knowledge of pre-school systems in Illinois, school systems, licensure in Illinois and how to support the development of professional teaching dispositions

Flexibility and availability during the day to meet with students virtually and in the field to help support their development and growth as high quality teacher candidates

Availability to travel locally

Experience working with under served and underrepresented learners
