Claims Attorney

The candidate will manage litigated claims to expedite settlements and control litigation costs by evaluating exposure, analyzing anticipated defense costs, and establishing a defense plan for outside counsel. Maintain adequate reserves. Participate in round table discussions prior to ADR or trial to evaluate risk and establish settlement parameters. Advise Claims staff on the investigation, liability, damages, and legal issues. Analyze and provide coverage opinions. Participate in training seminars. Review litigation files for compliance with internal standards. Assist with the development of policy forms and endorsements. Perform other duties as assigned. Should have a Juris Doctorate and license to practice law. Ability to analyze and interpret complex documents. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem-solving and negotiating skills. Effective time-management skills. Experience handling cases. Ability to work well with others. Knowledge of policy language and insurance coverage issues. A general knowledge of insurance law and an understanding of the operations and requirements of insured clients, customers, and the company. Trial experience and First-party property litigation experience are preferred.
