Associate Counsel
The candidate will provide legal advice and risk management counseling to Ardent Mills on a variety of issues, including contractual and transactional matters such as customer and vendor agreements, product, supply and distribution agreements, non-disclosure agreements, real estate/property issues and other contractual matters. Provide legal advice and risk management counseling to on regulatory and compliance matters, real estate/property issues and all domain areas of importance to the company including, commercial transactions, food law, antitrust/competition, environmental, mergers and acquisitions, labor and employment, intellectual property, data privacy, etc; includes legal drafting and research. Practice preventive law by providing advice, and in coordination with the General Counsel, training and education in areas such as antitrust/competition, regulatory compliance, contracting practices, food law and corporate structuring. This role will also advise and train Ardent Mills on compliance with various company policies and procedures. Work on miscellaneous projects/duties as assigned by the General Counsel, Senior Counsel or Labor & Employment Counsel. Projects may include, assisting the General Counsel/Corporate Secretary in preparing for Board Meetings and overseeing the books and records of the Company. Manage litigation and dispute resolution relating to business on matters such as commercial litigation, employment litigation, product liability, personal injury claims and government enforcement actions, including budgeting and managing outside counsel. Work with Labor and Employment Counsel to advise on a variety of labor and employment issues and related labor and employment laws in the U.S. and Canada. Assist with internal employment-related investigations and policy review. Bachelor’s Degree is required. Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited institution is required. Should be admitted to practice law in the State of Colorado or the ability to obtain membership in a reasonable amount of time. Should have 1-3 years of practice experience as a licensed attorney. Should have proven ability to serve as a strong business partner and proven history of building and demonstrating trust and integrity with others. Excellent communication, drafting and advocacy skills - speaks clearly and concisely; writes effectively and adapts communication to audience is needed. Proven ability to influence at all levels within the organization and a strong history of collaborating with other team members and coaching others. Should be highly motivated self-starter, with capacity to assume responsibility and work independently. Should demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguous situations, and work well under pressure, including working with multiple projects and deadlines. Strong attention to detail, thinks strategically and deeply about issues of significant risk and opportunity and demonstrates superior risk management skills. Should have a high impact execution, excellent time management and general organizational skills. Should have proven ability to manage conflict and apply business and legal judgment. Experience working with contractual language, including the drafting, revising, and analysis of the same.
