Development Technician
Houston - United States
The Development Technician performs mostly complex electrical tasks, including testing, setups, failure analysis, and soldering. Will also perform/assist with basic mechanical and physics tests. May work independently and/or may guide or direct other technicians.
Role and responsibilities:
Acknowledges requests for testing a specific item and determines the procedure to be followed, the condition of test, the equipment to be used, and the reporting of the results
Reviews test results and makes recommendations for: further testing, modification in procedures or discontinue of test
Prepares detailed analytical reports presenting basic information, conclusions, and other data as required and document in formal written engineering report
Participates in the evaluation of test results
Follows up on test results obtained in one series with another series of tests to provide further detail data based on knowledge and experience of testing techniques
Has a working knowledge of microcomputers for storage, retrieval, and processing of laboratory test data. Be capable of programming microcomputers to perform routine calculations
Keeps current with advances in testing techniques and equipment pertaining to the requirements of the laboratory
Provides cost estimates, test schedules, and test procedures to the engineer
Maintains an engineering notebook of all significant activity
Has a working knowledge of how related manufacturing and assembly equipment is assembled, disassembled, and operates
Familiarity with electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, multimeters, and other electronics lab equipment.)
Experience with eCAD software and NI LabView a plus
May provide direction to other development technicians
Work closely with Electrical Engineers
Wear PPE, as required, and observe health, safety and environmental policies
Successfully complete required safety training (including but not limited to forklift, drugs and alcohol, electrical, emergency response, fire, first aid, health and hygiene, PPE, SIPP, risk reporting, IT security, hazardous materials, driving)
Qualifications and Experience:
Two years of formal technical training
7 years of experience in performing tests with special instruments with a strong understanding of test equipment and measurements or three years of technical training and five years experience
Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.
