The candidate will conduct in person group orientations (also referred to as “know-your-rights” presentations) at the Houston Contract Detention Facility, Montgomery Processing Center and Joe Corley Detention Facility (Conroe, TX), and the IAH Secure Detention Facility (Livingston, TX). Provide individual orientations to unrepresented detainees after the rights presentations. Provide regular workshops to unrepresented individuals to teach them how to represent themselves and prepare pro se materials. Recruit, train and supervise pro bono lawyers and law students for representation on specific cases. Ensure contract compliance including regular data and narrative reporting to the funder. Participate in regular peer and supervisor review meetings and legal trainings. Perform all other duties as needed and/or as directed by supervisor including airport pickup of newly arrived refugees. Must have J.D. from ABA certified law school or international equivalent. Should have a current bar membership in good standing. Fluent in Spanish and English is required. Experience in immigration law is preferred. Law school experience will be considered. Must have advanced legal research and writing skills. Must demonstrate strong communication skills, client interviewing abilities, and an appreciation of multicultural experiences. Should have Texas Driver’s License; clean driving record; own vehicle; applicable auto insurance.
