Lead Counsel, MMUS Institutional Insurance Solutions
The candidate will be advising on insurance, ERISA, and securities law issues in connection with MassMutual’s Institutional Solutions businesses. Drafting and negotiating complex contracts for MassMutual’s Institutional Solutions businesses. Providing practical and solution-oriented advice on the design, implementation and marketing of insurance investment products and services for MassMutual’s Institutional Solutions businesses. Advising on key business, product development, and operational projects and initiatives. Proactively monitoring and advising on proposed and current regulations and legislation, as well as other legal developments. Effectively managing external counsel with respect to certain transactional activity. Providing technical support to the Company’s government relations team on legislative and regulatory issues impacting MassMutual Institutional Solutions. In-depth understanding and experience (5+ years) with insurance laws and regulations for institutional insurance [investment] products. Experience with Stable Value Insurance products, Pension Risk Transfer transactions, and other Group Annuity contracts issued in connection with institutional markets desired. Experience with bank-owned and corporate-owned life insurance would also be a plus. Excellent organizational, advocacy, interpersonal, research and verbal and written communication skills. Strong client relationship skills with the demonstrated ability to successfully work with internal colleagues at all levels, external counsel, regulators and other third parties. Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize tasks, organize and coordinate work while showing initiative, independence and sound judgment. Must be results focused, hardworking, hands on and creative. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. JD from an accredited law school, a member of the Bar in good standing (any state), and the ability to become licensed for in-house practice in Massachusetts if not now licensed in Massachusetts. Demonstrated academic achievement. Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future.
