Systems Engineer (Linux Applications)','20000C8S','!*!Primarily responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of the server environment. Additionally, responsible for the implementation of server and storage technology as well as server based applications.¬† Interacts with business users and vendors to implement new and existing servers and systems.¬† Act as 2nd level support for server and storage issues. Assists in the development and strategy of the server infrastructure through system monitoring, maintenance, and system upgrades.¬†¬†¬†
Participates with Project Management Office (PMO) representatives and IT&S Technology Architects/Senior engineers to implement new projects and service requests.
Ensures proper transition of operational documentation and necessary training to appropriate operational teams.
Assists tier 1 server and storage support organization in the timely resolution of Service Desk Trouble Tickets and related issues. Creates training and documentation relating to processes and solutions that can be addressed by tier 1 personnel. ¬†
Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis and resolution of server problems.¬† ‚Äč¬†
Monitors server resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain operating efficiency.‚Äč
Accurately documents instances of server failure, repair, installation, and removal.
Manages and administers an expanding VMWare ESX environment.
Installs, configures, tests, maintains and troubleshoots Windows/Unix servers, related hardware and software.
Collaborates with Desktop Support group, Service¬†Desk, and internal customers to ensure efficient operation of University Hospitals systems infrastructure.
Supports and manages the daily operations of a Microsoft Active Directory.
Serves as a point of escalation for complex operational issues.
Coordinates and monitors troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common system problems; documents system events to ensure continuous uptime.¬† Recommends course of action and implements as approved.
Coordinates testing, upgrades and configuration of system services.¬† Ensures changes are in accordance with appropriate operating procedures; recommends revisions or changes based upon results.¬† Prepares for and prescribes approaches to foreseen bottlenecks and challenges.
Serves as subject matter expert on complex system processes and procedures.
Participates in on-call service rotation; provides 24 x 7 production support on a rotating basis. Performs occasional night/weekend work as assigned.
','!*!Experience & Knowledge:
Five or more years experience with computer systems required.
Experience with server hardware, file systems, core computing software, networking, and maintenance required.
Experience in complex operating system infrastructure ‚Äď metro or global preferred.
Must be detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem solving ability.¬†
Notable client service, communication, presentation and relationship building skills required.¬†
Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment required.¬†
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to effectively document processes required.
Must be self-starter who is inspired by technology, highly organized, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Excellent skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Visio and Project required.
Main Engineer supporting our Linux applications. This includes applications such as Oracle, Hyperion, ¬†Softlabs, MDFIT, ¬†and Markview.¬†
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor‚Äôs Degree preferred.
Credentials, Licensure or Certification (i.e. RN, RRT):
Microsoft (MCP, MCSE), Citrix, Cisco, VMWare, A or similar preferred.
