Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property

The candidate provides expert counsel and advises cross-functional stakeholders and leadership on IP matters, including IP opportunities, risks, and mitigation strategies. Helps lead the development of a worldwide IP portfolio covering therapeutic applications of CRISPR-Cas9. Identify patentable inventions through regular interactions with internal R&D project teams, and work with outside counsel to draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide. Conduct due diligence assessments and counsel based on those assessments, including business development, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and IP landscape assessments. Assist with challenging and defending patents in PTAB, opposition proceedings, and other forums. Develop and implement strategies to secure freedom to operate for the firm. Keep abreast of changes in IP laws that affect the firm and its business goals. Identify unmet needs and potential IP-related legal issues and proactively propose strategies to optimize outcomes and results for the company. Work closely with other attorneys and staff to ensure that firm’s interests are properly protected. Serve as a role model and a champion of the legal department through work ethic, attitude, interpersonal skills, and successful results.
