Vice President , Employment Law Counsel
The candidate will Serves as primary in-house labor and employment law counsel for Carrington Mortgage Holdings, LLC and its affiliates. Interprets and prepares legal documents, analyzes proposed and existing legislation, reviews company policies, monitors and ensures legal compliance, oversees outside counsel representing the company in litigated matters and formal proceedings, and advises management on legal matters to guard the organization against legal liability. Perform all duties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, all US state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the company operates. Provide in-house legal counsel on labor and employment related matters, which may include, but are not limited to, human resources issues, wage and hour law, workers’ compensation, unemployment and other state agency claims, employee relations, employee benefits, employment/compensation agreements and policy related issues, FMLA and other state/local leave matters, employment related litigation, internal employee investigations, arbitrations and generally assists the General Counsel and Human Resources Department. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment practices laws, rules and regulations. Provide strategic legal counsel and risk management advice to management and the Human Resources team on a wide variety of HR and employment practices matters. Lead the Legal team's efforts in the preparation, implementation, and refinement of labor and employment-related policies, procedures, guidelines, tools, programs, and forms. Advice and counsel clients and stakeholders on employment-related legal matters, policies and procedures. Represent and defend the company as necessary in front of applicable federal, state and local regulatory and enforcement authorities. Support the company’s need to use VISA workers and assist with employment-related immigration matters. Counsel management and the Human Resources team on new or pending federal and state legislation, laws, rules and regulations, and industry developments and trends that affect the company and its operations. Efficiently manage outside employment counsel with an eye toward minimizing outside counsel expense and meeting budget. Provide substantive support for the rest of the Legal team including strategic transactions and other ad hoc projects as needed. Provide reports and supervision to the General Counsel and senior management on compliance issues. Excellent ability to analyze and interpret legal and statutory materials as well as state and federal regulations are required. Ability to simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting priorities within a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment. Strong, effective and efficient presentation and written skills for interactions with the General Counsel and executive/senior management. Effectively able to build and maintain strong relationships with all levels of employees and management are required. Detail-oriented, organized, efficient, and resourceful with strong follow-through skills are required. Highly analytical and have exceptional business and legal issue identification and problem-solving skills are required. Strong desire to learn the business and new areas of law and to function integrally as part of an interdisciplinary team are required. Practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving and be able to effectively counsel internal clients by providing them with clear, concise, and commercial advice, and creative solutions where necessary, on established timelines to meet their business needs. A J.D. from an accredited law school are required. 5 plus years of recent experience as an in house employment law attorney are required. Law firm experience is a plus. Must be admitted, active and in good standing with the California or Texas bar, as applicable, or eligible to apply as registered in-house counsel in either state. Experience working with California employment and wage and hour state departments are required.
