Description
Humana Health Research (HHR) is seeking a Healthcare Research Lead with expertise in Health Equity. This is an exciting opportunity to help build the research agenda around current and planned initiatives. The Research Consulting Lead will perform scientific investigation and research directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge and consult with leaders to guide business decisions. This individual will work on issues of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.
Responsibilities
As part of the healthcare research team focusing on health equity, the Research Consulting Lead responsibilities will include the following:
Oversee project teams comprised of individuals tasked with research consulting and analytic roles in the design, implementation, analysis and interpretation of research studies in the area of health equity.
Directly serve in the research consulting (described below) or analytic role on research studies.
Work closely with the HHR Director of Research Consulting and the Chief Health Equity Officer to support development of a health equity research pipeline that addresses relevant topics in both the healthcare industry and society as a whole.
Participate in publication strategy and medical writing tasks.
The main day-to-day responsibilities of the Research Consulting Lead when overseeing projects include:
Overseeing the development of study protocols for business owners/research partners/clients, ensuring that studies are designed in a feasible, rigorous, and cost effective manner.
Overseeing, from inception to completion, projects that involve retrospective data analysis, primary data collection, mixed methods, or prospective observational or interventional healthcare outcomes.
Providing expert recommendations for the design and execution of research studies, ensuring a scientifically sound approach that is in line with HHR business objectives and value to Humana.
Working collaboratively with the HHR Director of Research Consulting and the Chief Health Equity Officer in business development by delivering advanced capability presentations to potential partners/clients, and generating new collaborative research opportunities for HHR.
Assisting the Director of Research Consulting on strategic planning and infrastructure development activities.
The main day-to-day responsibilities of the Research Consulting Lead when serving the role of research consulting include:
Identifying and understanding business and clinical issues to map these issues into quantitative questions.
Designing scientifically valid studies to answer relevant questions.
Exploring relevant data sources to understand what metrics can be produced.
Coordinating the integration of data to determine clinical and economic trends and impact.
Working with complex health care databases to produce statistical output and interpret results.
Reporting results for studies through presentations, abstracts and publications.
Communicating insights and analytical findings to a broad range of audiences.
Mentoring other research professionals or students in extensive projects or programs.
Develop and evaluate evidence-based solutions to health differences that are driven largely by social, demographic, economic, and environmental factors. Creating and implementing a health equity research framework from cross-functional collaboration
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in the area of healthcare research (e.g., health policy, public health, epidemiology, outcomes research, or health services research)
At least 2 years of experience leading teams working on healthcare research projects (health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), primary research, claims data research, etc.)
Experience setting up research studies for publication in top tier journals
Track record in leading/participating in research activity related to health disparities
Deep understanding of the interplay of various socioeconomic and demographic variables in research study design and data analysis
Strong problem solving skills
Flexibility and the ability to work effectively on an inter-disciplinary team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
PhD degree in health policy, health services research, public health, pharmacoeconomics, epidemiology or equivalent
Prior work experience in primary research, prospective research, health services research or HEOR within a managed care or healthcare research organization
Experience in health equity focused research as well as Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR)
