The candidate will open cases promptly – FOIA cases have a fast turnaround time of 30 days for AUSA’s and agency to respond to the complaint. Keep the AUSA’s current with deadlines for answers, MSJ, MTD. Open Immigration cases, Employment (Title VII cases), APA. Send to corresponding agency and inform AUSA who agency counsel is. Prepare opening letters for the various cases handled by the US Attorney’s Office (FOIA, Immigration, APA, TORT, Employment Discrimination, etc.) sending these letters to the appropriate agencies being served. Also, attaching copies of the complaints. Prepare opening memos for the various cases to be sent to Main Justice. Assist the AUSA’s e-file documents pertinent to specific cases. Filing of answers, motions, notice of appearance. Contact court reporters, set up court reporters for depositions to be carried out at the office. Fill out Fin-1 forms for services provided by consultants, court reporters, etc and send them to Finance for processing, assisting AUSA’s on trial. Helping prepare exhibit binders for court and using trial software (trial director) to present these exhibits in court. Assist AUSA’s in drafting responses, motions, summary reports. Assist the office in administrative tasks, supply runs across the street, working the front desk, fielding calls, sorting out mail, greeting people.
