Attorney - Advisor - General
Duties: Provide legal support across all the line offices and General Counsel sections related to implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act, compliance with the Organization’s trust resources responsibilities, and other cross-cutting mandates. Get to support the Organization’s diverse mission ranging from protecting and managing marine resources such as U.S. and international fisheries, marine mammals, endangered and threatened marine species; conserving and managing ocean and coastal areas and marine sanctuaries; predicting and communicating weather forecasts; planning and managing Earth-observing satellite systems; and licensing of commercial satellites. In addition to a more traditional legal role, also is responsible for developing the agency’s policies and procedures for implementing NEPA. Close engagement with Line Office staff to ensure that the Organization’s NEPA program can address the needs of programs ranging from the NMFS Science Centers -- to OAR’s research vessels - to the Weather Service’s NEXRAD systems. Interaction with other General Counsel office attorneys, scientists, natural resource managers, policy makers and technical staff, Department of Commerce officials, and other Federal and state agency officials.
