Job Overview: A law firm specializing in intellectual property law is seeking a Patent Development and Strategy Attorney to join their team in Reston, VA. The ideal candidate will manage patent prosecution matters, counsel clients, draft patent applications, and conduct due diligence.

Duties:

• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties.
• Produce high-quality deliverables, answer phone calls, and respond to correspondence promptly.
• Ensure timely and accurate work product while meeting deadlines and expectations.
• Foster positive relationships and adhere to firm policies and practices.
• Engage in physical and sedentary activities, including computer work, digital/virtual conference calls, and meetings as required.
• Perform additional duties, tasks, or projects as assigned.

Requirements:

• Registration with the USPTO.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in patent prosecution.
• Familiarity with patent prosecution, client counseling, drafting patent applications, freedom to operate opinions, and due diligence.
• Experience in a large or mid-sized law firm preferred.
• Strong analytical and writing skills with attention to detail.
• Good business judgment and excellent organizational abilities.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Research and problem-solving capabilities.
• Conceptual thinking and ability to influence others.
• Persuasive communication and management skills.
• A JD degree is required; an additional chemical engineering or chemistry degree is preferred.
• Admitted to practice law in Virginia.

Education and Certifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
• A bachelor's or advanced degree in chemical engineering or chemistry is preferred.
• Admission to practice law in Virginia.
