Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Integrated Operation Assurance group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Lead Nuclear Safety Inspector.

Our team works an on-site 9x80 schedule located at our Research and Education Campus with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

Provide independent inspection of INL Nuclear Facilities (ATR, ATR-C, MFC, and associated facilities) by conducting oversight, performing analyses, reviewing and recommending for approval nuclear safety authorization basis changes.

Review operating event time lines and causal evaluations developed by the line organizations responsible for the safe conduct of nuclear operations. Ensure that the actual causes of operating events are identified and that actions to prevent recurrence are appropriate to the causes and timely implemented.

Advise and assist Laboratory Director, Laboratory Deputy Directors, and senior management on laboratory and national issues.

Develop and lead strategic relationships with DOE-ID, DOE-HQ, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), other national laboratories, peer groups, nuclear agencies, senior management, and facility operations.

Serve on and/or lead teams establishing nuclear safety objectives, setting priorities and advising INL senior management.

Develop and maintain expertise and convey nuclear safety information to the INL. Perform duties as a Nuclear Safety expert. Organize, chair, or present at national nuclear safety meetings. Participate as a technical/professional authority on national or peer-review committees including INPO, NRC, DOE-ID, and DOE-HQ committees.

Develop and implement comprehensive nuclear safety regulatory controls, procedures and processes.

Develop evaluation methods to assess performance, inspection procedures for inspections and assessments, and support for preparation of nuclear safety standards.

Provide resources as authority in strategic areas to facilitate accomplishment of the Laboratory's mission in an effective and efficient manner, as determined by the Director of ONA.

Provide oversight of and conduct inspections. As part of inspections, review safety analysis reports (SARs), technical safety requirements (TSRs), technical specifications/standards, unreviewed safety question (USQ) screenings and evaluations, and other safety basis documents that support DOE regulations.

Provide oversight of complex nuclear safety tasks ensuring compliance with technical codes, standards and regulations. Provide mentorship of other inspectors.

Identify human and equipment performance trends and submit trend analysis reports for Laboratory Deputy Director's review.

 

','!*!Minimum Requirements:

Level 5: Bachelor's and 12 years related experience, or Advanced Degree and 8 years related experience; experience associated with nuclear materials and/or nuclear power plant operations, maintenance, and testing that demonstrates knowledge of basic nuclear technology, operating safety procedures, radiological safety, codes, and standards. This ability must have been gained through commercial, government, or military nuclear experience. Requires extensive contact with INPO, DOE-HQ, DOE-ID, senior management, facility operations, and other nuclear agencies.

Demonstrated expertise in verbal and written communications is required.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Requirements:

Experience as an NRC Senior Resident Inspector or qualified Inspector, Shift Supervisor in a commercial power plant or DOE Nuclear Facility, or equivalent.

Job Information

Salary Grade: 230 ($121,212 - $206,232)
