Schlumberger is currently looking for a US qualified lawyer to join the Legal team supporting its Technology Centers in North and Latin America.

The position is based in Houston (US – Texas).

Job Summary:

The Technology Senior Attorney is responsible for providing general legal assistance and advice for the assigned Technology Centers.

General Responsibilities:

Provides guidance and assistance to ensure all operations and business activities related to the assigned Technology Centers are carried out in compliance with local laws and regulations and with Schlumberger corporate policies, standards and procedures.  

Provides legal advice and support in drafting and negotiating all types of contracts to meet business and legal needs, including complex contracts in the technology field to achieve acceptable risk levels in accordance with internal approval standards, procedures and processes.

Assists with managing non-IP disputes and litigation of the Technology organization in the assigned Technology Centers to reduce non-conformance costs and pursue claim recoveries and to generally achieve the desired outcome set by the relevant management team.

Is responsible for raising awareness and providing training on relevant legal and compliance risks for the relevant personnel of the assigned Technology Centers.  

Identifies legal and compliance risks to the assigned Technology Centers and proposes and implements appropriate solutions.

Interacts with other Legal teams on functional initiatives, partners with IP teams in support of technology legal matters giving rise to IP exposure (e.g., departing employee, confidentiality risks) and with GeoUnit or Division legal teams in support of manufacturing and supply legal issues related to commercial products and services.

Interacts with other support functions and departments within the assigned Technology Centers to ensure involvement in matters giving rise to legal exposure. 

Assists with developing and implementing specific legal procedures, guidelines and templates for the assigned Technology Centers.  

Organizes, contributes to, and participates in compliance allegations reviews, Operations Assurance Reviews and Trade Control Compliance Reviews related to the assigned Technology Centers, and share findings and conclusions with the Director of Innovation, Technology Managing Counsel, Technology management teams and Ethics & Compliance Department on a regular basis.  

Manages outside Counsel and is responsible for the quality of selected Outside Counsel work.

Monitors developments of regulations related to engineering and manufacturing business for assigned Technology Centers, communicates relevant updates to the affected members of the management team and other legal and compliance professionals on as needed basis.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

LLM or JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in any jurisdiction in the US.

Minimum of three years of professional qualified experience in a law firm or corporate legal department environment.

Results oriented, strong work ethic, and strong business acumen.

Able to think strategically and solve problems systematically.

Able to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and project teams to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems.

Customer focused, punctual and display a sense of urgency.

Excellent legal writing skills, verbal, written and presentation communication skills including communicating complex content to a range of audiences.

Able to work independently as well as a highly functioning team member.

Able to travel domestically or internationally as required.
