Senior Counsel - Insurance Law
The candidate will provide counsel to various business units regarding a full range of legal matters in connection with the development, issuance, administration and distribution of the Company's insurance products. Will exercise sound legal and business decision-making through assessment of risk and evaluation and explanation of alternatives and their implications. Support Underwriting and Underwriting Governance with a primary focus on Marine and Aviation underwriting (e.g., drafting/review of forms, new product development), Market Management and Communications (e.g., broker agreements, broker relations, customer communications), Finance (e.g., assessments collection, premium recovery, escheat), and Operations (policy transactions). A significant amount of contract/policy drafting and review. Regulatory compliance matters, including the companies' state licensing, foreign reinsurer registrations, underwriting market conduct examinations, responding to government inquiries (data calls, complaints, etc.), coordinating form/rate filings for new products, and producer licensing. Administration of corporate compliance policies and processes, including code of conduct, company's anti-corruption policy, and OFAC screenings. Monitor new laws evaluate the impact and alert internal business clients, including federal laws (e.g., TRIA, OFAC, optional federal charter bills) and state laws (e.g., SFP exceptions for terrorism, commercial deregulated states, catastrophe funds, and restrictions on cancellation/nonrenewal. Act as a sounding board for assigned internal business leaders regarding legal issues relating to the implementation of strategy, new processes and products. Provide legal advice on complex AGCS projects, including restructuring activities and regional expansion.
