Assistant General Counsel
The candidate will assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education. Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party. Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance issues. Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators. Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies. Research federal and state legal questions. Assist with general corporate matters. Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance. Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients. Should have a Bachelor’s degree and JD from an ABA-accredited law school. Should have 3+ years of experience in the practice of law. Higher education experience is preferred. Experience in consumer protection law preferred (in-house, government employment, or law firm). Bar admission in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC is needed. Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills are needed. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is needed.
