Job Description:
This position is responsible to carry out bunker sourcing activities across North & South America, supporting the Global Crude, Products and LNG Freight Trading businesses.
Freight Trading in Shell continues to evolve with a growing amount of external voyage charters, significant changes in regulatory policy (e.g. IMO 2020) and tough market conditions which require all industry players to seek out improved technological and operational solutions to add value.
IMO 2020 Regulations are a significant industry change which will require navigating. Bunker Sourcing team members will play a key role in minimising value leakage throughout this change and will support forming and implementing the bunker purchasing strategy for their region.
This position is in the Commercial Operations area, which is part of the Shell Global Trading Network. The ability to prioritize from several potentially conflicting tasks whilst keeping a cool head is essential to success in dealings with internal and external customers. We are looking for those willing to work to deadlines in a lively, fast-moving, frequently changing environment where numeracy, attention to detail, proven team working and communication skills are important.
Due to the nature of the role it is critical that the candidate has the right focus to manage the significant potential exposure in both HSSE and Compliance. The incumbent will be expected to be available outside of office hours in-case of certain issues given shipping is a 24/7 business.
Accountabilities
Source bunkers both through the Shell marine fuel network and the external market in most cost-efficient way, fully aligned to business objectives.
Establish and proactively articulate a market view to Freight Traders & Operators.
Establish strong relationships with bunker suppliers and build long term and strategic partnerships with key suppliers.
Manage interfaces across Freight Trading, Operations and Maritime Assurance.
Collate and analyse market information.
Develop solutions to reduce bunker costs jointly with Freight Traders and Operators.
Proactively support Freight Traders and Operators in assessing business opportunities by providing economics and fuel availability to ascertain the ideal bunkering location.
Manage term purchase contracts through regular monitoring and evaluation.
Ensure the Shell Barging Policy is adhered to.
Identify and negotiate claims arising from bunker purchase contracts e.g. short deliveries, specification shortfalls. Liaise with Claims Team on major claims.
Provide stock awareness, purchase, administration and provision of cost and operational advice on bunker matters.
Collate statistics, benchmark and develop the regional bunker sourcing strategy.
Identify and develop Continuous Improvement opportunities to streamline and improve performance.
Whilst maximizing value, it’s of vital importance that across all activities standards of HSSE and Compliance are upheld in this area of high-exposure activity. This role will require strong collaboration with associated Commercial teams within Crude, Products and LNG Freight Trading and complete alignment & support of the strategies of these teams.
Globally, the bunker procurement team procures 1.5Mln mt of fuel oil and gasoil to bunker time-chartered vessels for the Products, Crude and LNG freight desks. The annual spend is around $800M over 180 ports. In Americas region, approx. 600 bunker stems/year are purchased. Specifically in South America finding sources of supply which are HSSE acceptable is a challenge. This role specifically will be responsible for around 200 stems per year and includes Rio de Janeiro.

Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor's Degree related to Maritime or equivalent working experience.
Minimum of ten (10) years' relevant industry experience.
Strong commercial acumen and ability to work independently within a dynamic, fast-paced and business critical trading environment.
Proven negotiating skills.
Strong external focus and a commercial mindset to maximize opportunities in the market.
Understanding of the bunker market.
Ability to manage relationships and communicate effectively, proactively and professionally with regional stakeholders.
