The position is located in Elk Grove Village, IL and the Marketing Specialist (Assistant)   will be supporting the Boise Paper division of Packaging Corporation of America (PCA).


Position Summary: 

The Marketing Specialist (Assistant) is responsible for supporting the Sales and Marketing teams through a variety of projects and deliverables to add value to the business. The Marketing Specialist (Assistant) is expected to provide general support for sales and marketing teams, including updating and proofing sales collateral, data entry and reporting, and expense tracking. The job requires organization, analysis, initiative, and a sense of urgency. The Marketing Specialist (Assistant)  is expected to be a team player and have a “can-do” attitude to ensure we meet tight deadlines.



Boise Paper is a division of Packaging Corporation of America (PCA).  Boise Paper is the third largest manufacturer of uncoated freesheet in the United States.  PCA embodies a culture of continuous improvement and, as such, is dedicated to delivering a high quality and sustainable product. Marketing is a centralized function responsible for strategic planning, product development, pricing, positioning, and communicating value to customers. The division delivers an annual revenue of $950MM across businesses. The department consists of marketing professionals who manage distinct, yet interdependent marketing functions. 


Principle Accountabilities: 

  • Track and update marketing tools including collateral, merchandise, packaging, or other marketing assets.
  • Support marketing and sales team in development and delivery of collateral and merchandise.
  • Submit, track, and reconcile invoices against general and customer specific marketing budgets.
  • Coordinate and deliver customer communications including newsletters, product updates, announcements, and promotions through our online CRM system.
  • Organize logistics for customer shows and events.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to execute proposals for accuracy and manage projects to a budget.
  • Manage timelines for advertising and communications to ensure timely creation, review, and delivery.
  • Track and manage third-party approval process.
  • Create high quality customer presentations leveraging PowerPoint skills.
  • Responsible for knowing and following policies and procedures of the company; for sharing information that would benefit other members of the team; and for finding ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers.
  • Strives to continually strengthen PCA’s business philosophy of meeting needs and exceeding expectations for customers.  This includes supporting PCA’s Commitment to Service which involves doing what’s right for our customers, focusing on strategies that add value and support growth, and keeping the promises that we make

Decision Making:

The Marketing Specialist (Assistant) is expected to exercise solid judgment in prioritizing projects and determining how the department’s limited resources can be utilized for maximum return.  The individual is expected to have strong communication skills and the ability to influence colleagues to ensure desired outcomes. 


Interactions with Customers and Contacts

Internally, the Marketing Specialist (Assistant) will work with marketing, sales reps, and sales managers on an ongoing basis.  The individual is expected to be able to prioritize requests and ensure the department meets customer driven deadlines and will be expected to interact directly with customers via email, telephone, and when they visit PCA locations. 


Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in administrative, executive assistant, or similar support role.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail orientation.
  • Knowledge of CRM or specialized marketing software a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new software packages.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple requests simultaneously.
  • Ability to create a high quality of written correspondence with attention to style, content and structure.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Exhibit a professional and positive demeanor with a high degree of commitment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Previous experience working in a team environment preferred, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing among co-workers.
