Job duties
This position will provide legal support to the Division of Children and Family Services as a juvenile court attorney for the Eastern Service Area. The attorney in this position will appear as a special assistant attorney general representing the Department in juvenile court proceedings, with an emphasis on child welfare proceedings, which may include hearings related to commitment to a Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center. This attorney may provide litigation support to the agency and Attorney General's Office, as needed. This may include the handling of appeals filed with the Nebraska appellate courts on behalf of the agency. This courtroom attorney may conduct privilege reviews for compliance with public records requests and discovery requests, as needed.

Pay rate Negotiable; commensurate with education and/or experience, if approved.
REQUIREMENTS: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies. In accordance with Section 7-101, Nebraska Revised, Reissued Statutes of l943, incumbents in this class must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar.
PREFERRED: Experience or familiarity with juvenile law.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
Ability to: effectively advocate the position of the agency in juvenile court proceedings; identify critical elements of legal questions or issues and notify administration; interpret and apply statutes, case law, decisions of court/administrative hearings, federal and state regulations, and administrative rules and policies on a variety of legal issues; effectively communicate and interact with legal associates, legal parties, other government employees, and the public; conduct legal research; and formulate legal opinions and recommendations based on legal research.
