Staff Attorney
Duties: Provide comprehensive, holistic, direct civil legal services to victims and survivors of domestic/dating abuse, rape/sexual assault, elder abuse, and/or stalking. Work as part of our legal team, assisting advocates, counselors, and pro bono attorneys. Entails extensive advocacy and litigation, including motion practice and trials, in the Family, Supreme, and Integrated Domestic Violence Courts, as well as in administrative immigration hearings and Immigration court. The range of legal services provided for domestic violence victims runs the spectrum from legal information, referrals, advice, brief services, advocacy, and negotiation to full direct representation in litigated court matters and appearances in all Nassau County courts including Immigration court (New York City) and administrative hearings. Community outreach and attend Nassau County Bar Association committee meetings. Collect, report, and maintain statistical records. Conduct and attend training. Commitment to collaborative multi-cultural work; and the ability to work well with people in diverse settings. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
