Licensing Associate - Office of Technology Transfer

The candidate will be responsible for supervising the work of the staff (including PhD interns) of the WVU Innovation Center (WVUIC) at the WVU Health Science Center (WVU HSC). Will facilitate communication between WVU HSC researchers and the OTT. Assist with intellectual property disclosures for West Virginia University health science researchers. Provide baseline scientific merit and protection potential assessment of inventions. Provide support to West Virginia University health science researchers through educational and informational meetings regarding patent processes and commercialization of inventions. Review external reports regarding inventions and discuss findings with researcher. Work with researchers to create research strategy timelines to promote progression of inventions to point of commercialization. Assist in the communication between researchers and patent counsel during the drafting of provisional and non-provisional patent applications, copyright, or trademark applications. Identify potential licensing partners for technology. Market technologies in order to obtain licensing partners or similar business agreements. Report on the current status of technologies and inventions to the WVUIC. JD or PhD degree required. Must have 2 years experience working in an innovation or technology transfer office. Must have experience working with intellectual property disclosures. Experience and knowledge of patent, copyright and trademark protection is required. Health sciences background preferred. Experience with academic research environments with the ability to apply this knowledge to problem solving situations is required. Must have working knowledge of federal and state regulatory and compliance issues, federal and state laws, and public policy.
