Position Overview:

Experienced laboratory chemist that is responsible for technical aspects of the everyday tasks for the Quality Lab as well as the Manufacturing area, ensuring compliance with formula specifications, testing requirements for all products, and batching instructions. This regional role is the link between CPS North America Operations (CPNA) (Manufacturing and Lab) with both CPSNA Commercialization and R&D. Must be knowledgeable in basic PICASSO interfacing as well as SAP quality modules. Role occasionally serves as backfill to the Quality Lab, so basic knowledge of procedures, instrumentation and ingredient and finished product testing are required. Familiarity with GMP/GLP, ISO standards, KORE and regulatory requirements are also needed.

Function Specific Activities:

Essential Functions:

Management of Formulas and Working Notes

Manage the logistics of Working Notes between the plants and Formula Governance

Maintain a Master List of Working Notes

Ensure Formula documents are being maintained in a safe at each plant

Review formula/product specifications in PICASSO in order to provide support to the Manufacturing area as well as support effective decision making/problem solving

Provide formula inputs for MFG process evaluations, changes and projects

Interaction / Collaboration with R&D

Review formula aspects with R&D pertaining issues related to quality of parts

Consult with R&D adjustments to formulas and ingredient substitutions (e.g. juices)

Manage issues related to shelf-life, storage conditions and quality inspection parameters of formulas and components. Discuss situations with R&D and gain alignment on solution and next steps.

Collaboration and Support to Manufacturing

Works with production to ensure accuracy of batch composition

Trouble shoots production process problems based on analyses, data interpretation and formula specifications

Prepare specific SMIs based on batch characteristics and manufacturing needs

Support the finding of solutions for distressed and problem batches in order to minimize losses

Quality Master Data

Evaluate and maintain the required task lists for Inspection Plans for New Finished Products, Ingredients and Packaging materials (including BCP)

Evaluate and maintain Quality Management view in Material Master for New Finished Products, Ingredients and Packaging materials (including BCP)

Verify and confirm against PICASSO the shelf life and temperature conditions for New Finished Products and Ingredients

Support Quality Master Data updates for Inspection Plans due to KORE requirements revisions.

Identify and coordinate creation of Master Inspection characteristics when required for New Finished Products and Ingredients.

Create and submit Quality MDM request when required for creation of Master Inspection characteristics.

Main contact with global Quality Management team

Collaboration with Commercialization

Participate in monthly plant Commercialization meetings

Clarify and understand technical aspects of new/reformulated products

Participate in First-Time-Runs (when possible)

Participate in Trial Runs (when possible)

Represent QA in Quarterly Optimization Routines

Collaborate and align with Commercialization Formula Managers

Non-essential Functions:

Provide support to tasks like Shelf Life Extensions, Non-Conforming Materials, Problem Solving, and Quality Audits as needed (BBP & CRI)

Other duties as required

General Aspects of the Position:

Generally works in a closed environment, in laboratory conditions, with normal level of noise and controllable changes of temperature.

Needs to walk, bend the body, lean, and/or be seated for long periods of time.

Performs light physical effort with little exposure to adverse conditions.

Works with a personal computer and programs to prepare documents or reports and present these to others as necessary.

Applies communication skills to perform work and coordinate with others.

Utilizes advanced skills of reading, writing, speaking, analytical capacity and high level of professional judgment to resolve problems affecting work area.

In the lab, associate can be exposed to fumes, dust, strong odors, and/or high temperatures. Must use protective personal equipment as applicable.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or similar science field

Related Work Experience:   

At least 2 years (manufacturing experience preferred)

General Knowledge of Formulas & PICASSO:

Ability to evaluate, understand and apply formula specifications kept in PICASSO

Basic SAP Master Data Knowledge

: Skilled in basic use and operation of SAP. Understanding of concentrate formula and master data. Understanding of QA Master Data tasks and views

Ability to manage critical information with high-level of detail and accuracy. Be able to identify opportunities to reduce mistakes and better options for validating work to ensure high quality.

Laboratory Practices/testing: 

Knowledge and application of Good Laboratory Practices (e.g., handling of chemicals and glassware, preparation of standards and reagents, proper measuring techniques, data management, housekeeping).
