Paralegal Specialist III
The candidate will be conducting pre-file conferences of victims, witnesses, and police officers on Misdemeanor and Felony domestic violence cases and assessing the needs of the victim. Responding to the City of Miami, City of Hialeah, City of Hialeah Gardens, City of Miami Springs, Town of Medley, and Village of Virginia Gardens. Taking sworn statements of victims, witnesses, and police officers. Taking photographs of victims’ injuries. Assessing victims’ needs and providing information regarding their rights as a victim of crime and Crimes Compensation. Completing a Victim Assessment form in Hydra. Coordinating emergency shelter for the victim. Conducting roll calls at various police departments to inform police officers about the program. Performing other related duties as assigned. Should have a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator), or Associate Degree and four 4 years of experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator), or successful completion of a 2 years paralegal program and 4 years of experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, Assistant (Trial Coordinator), or 6 years of equivalent combination of education and work experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator). Prior work experience with victims of crime is preferred. Must possess a valid and current Florida Driver's License and have a very good driving record. Must reside within 20 miles of the designated areas. Must possess and demonstrate fluency in English and Spanish. Possess and demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities. Possess and demonstrate excellent organizational skills. Work effectively under pressure and with stringent deadlines. Be flexible with their work schedule. Be a self-starter, work independently, be adaptable to change, and be detailed-orientated.
Work Schedule: an on-call shift from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM (Monday through Friday) and 24 hours on weekends and holidays and must work during regular business hours (8:00 AM to 4:30 OM) 1+ week out of each month at the Courthouse Center, Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Unit.
