The candidate will be interviewing applicants on substantive legal issues, providing legal information and advice, referrals, and brief services such as reviewing legal documents, helping clients fill out legal forms and write simple letters, providing brief advocacy calls on behalf of clients and providing guidance for pro se clients who need help to prepare for a pro se court appearance or strategize the next step in a self-help legal matter. An IRA Attorney may also be asked to provide initial pleadings or other documents in emergency cases. If appropriate, the Intake Attorney will also prepare the client case to be transferred for extended services by an the firm's practice group or specialty unit. Referrals may also be made to the firm's statewide Volunteer Attorney Program. Applicants must be a licensed NM attorney, obtain a license in New Mexico through reciprocity, or qualify for a limited license. Candidates sitting for the next NM bar exam are also welcome to apply. Show a passion for working with low income clients with legal problems impacting their housing, economic, and personal security. Have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to multitask and manage a high caseloads. Have computer skills including shared online workspaces and utilizing video conferencing.
