The incumbent provides a wide variety of program, administrative, scheduling and secretarial functions best termed as executive assistance.  These assignments are related to the full range of responsibilities of the reporting officials and require the incumbent to provide daily advice, objective analysis, and recommendations on a variety of issues.  The incumbent personally handles a wide variety of administrative, coordination, and technical assignments which require the ability to interact effectively with high-ranking officials inside and outside of the Department, the Office of the Secretary, the Assistant Secretaries, and the bureaus.  The incumbent also has a comprehensive working knowledge of administrative policies and practices of the entire Department.
At the full performance levelGS-12the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
1) Provides a variety of administrative services supporting the Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals and others in the Office. 
2) Provides executive assistance including coordination, scheduling and travel preparation and follow-up.   
3) Handles a variety of organizational, program and technical assignments related to the responsibilities of the Assistant Secretary’s office and in support of the supervisor’s daily activities.   
4) Maintains a working knowledge of the administrative policies, procedures and practices of the Department. 
5) Provides communication on behalf of the supervisor with senior officials and offices both external to and within the Department, and maintains a working knowledge of the organization and functions of Departmental offices. 

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.
Salary InformationGS-12 $83,398 - $108,422 per annum.  First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.
This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available. 
,qualifications:To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the grade to which you are applying.  
ALL applicants must meet the requirements for the GS-12 level by one of the following means:
To qualify for the GS-12, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience:
1)  Handling multiple assignments simultaneously.
2)  Communicating with individuals at all levels to include confidential, controversial and sensitive matters.
3)  Using computer software applications to prepare a variety of documents, schedules, travel management, timekeeping and correspondence.
4)  Develop and recommend new approaches to resolve problems, improve operations and ensure compliance with Departmental requirements.
5)  Plan, schedule and conduct projects and studies to evaluate and recommend ways to improve effectiveness and efficiency of administrative functions.
