Paralegal - CRP Unit
The candidate under the general direction of the CRP Assistant Prosecutor, assists in processing child support cases from filing with the Court to final order. Duties include, but not limited to, maintaining computer and hard copy files for cases, screening referrals from Family Independence Agency and Friend of the Court, conducting interviews, and scheduling hearings. Assists in child support cases including scheduling hearings, communicating with support agencies and defendants, and gathering any necessary documentation to ensure proper case procedures. Works with other states and countries in regard to cases filed under UIFSA. Assists in case processing from filing with the court to final order including drafting pleadings, discussing and answering petitioner’s questions and concerns, notarizing documents, and submitting pleadings and exhibits for signatures. Schedules appointments and conducts interviews with child caretakers to obtain necessary information for cases. Coordinates DNA testing schedules with other state agencies and countries. Coordinates telephone hearings with other state agencies. Drafts various documents for cases including complaints, affidavits, legal briefs, letters. Prepares and faxes notices of hearings on scheduled events to appropriate offices. Researches referral and interstate cases received from outside agencies. Runs child support recommendation report from computer and drafts proposed orders. Prepares and presents orders post hearing to involved parties and Friend of the Court, notifies parties and schedules objections for hearing by Family Court Judge as necessary. Performs service of processes for UIFSA cases and cases filed under Michigan’s paternity and child support laws. Performs other duties as assigned.
