The candidate will organize, update and ensure completeness of individual litigation files Perform all systems checks including, but not limited to, National Files Tracking System (NFTS), Computer Linked Application Information Management System (CLAIMS), Person Centric Query System (PCQS), Tableau to determine the status and location of the applications/petitions subject of case, and other factual details to determine the validity of facts as articulated in the appeal. Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for use by attorneys in in preparation of the appeal. Use legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research to support USCIS’ briefing of the defense of the visa petition appeal. Use a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. Receive Records of Proceedings (ROPs) or Electronic Records of Proceedings (eROPs) from the USCIS operational client and update required electronic systems (including PMT and CLAIMS/NFTC etc.) to indicate receipt. Review the ROPs for completeness and accuracy and return to the operational client for any necessary corrections. Perform any necessary simple legal research and assist with drafting basic government briefs in support of the underlying decision for OCC attorney signature. Draft trend reports and narratives summarizing common issues that arise in visa petition appeals. Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance. Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study. One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate. Must have excellent writing skills and oral communication skills. Must have demonstrated ability to work independently in a team environment. Requires at least one year of litigation paralegal experience. Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citations. Bluebook coursework is helpful. Must be experiences in using legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research. Must work with a sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. Requires basic familiarity with Relativity and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources. Must be able to work independently and take initiative without constant supervision. Must work effectively with colleagues at all levels. Must have excellent skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and working knowledge of SharePoint. Must be able to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure. Trial experience is very helpful. Automated litigation experience is valued. Experience using National Files Tracking System (NFTS), Computer Linked Application Information Management System (CLAIMS),Person Centric Query System (PCQS), Tableau, or Relativity extremely helpful.
