Associate Counsel

The candidate will provide expert and strategic support to the Office of the General Counsel. Help set internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors. Document review, including negotiation of supplier agreements. Participate in various levels of management committees and activities. Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks. Base decision making process on ethics and integrity. Create associations of trust and respect with key stakeholders. Deal with external parties (regulators, external counsel, politicians, clients). Draft agreements that minimize risks and maximize legal rights. Support, collaborate upon, and develop legal and departmental objectives, in collaboration with the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel. Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas. Keep abreast of legal, legislative and regulatory changes and developments. Should have proven legal experience in the business environment (4-6 years Associate Counsel, 7+ Senior Counsel). Banking experience and knowledge of banking regulatory framework expected. Broad legal knowledge (corporate law, litigation, labor law, etc.). In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizations. Ability to collaborate on the develop legal strategy and objectives. High degree of professional ethics and integrity. Excellent judgment and analytical skills. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to anticipate legal issues or risks and to “see around the corner”. Licensed to practice law, willing to obtain a license in CT.
