Labor Rights and Policy Attorney
Responsibilities: Building on the Center’s experience providing services to labor trafficking victims, as well as the momentum created by Maryland’s first labor trafficking law, work with the Center’s director and senior leadership to develop and implement the Center’s strategic response to labor trafficking in Maryland. Help develop the Center’s next stage direction in broader labor trafficking prevention, policy, research, and remedies in the national and international realms. Develop and advance key community and stakeholder partnerships with labor unions, community activists, employers, government agencies, academics, and others at the local, national, and international levels to further the Center’s mission related to labor trafficking. Design labor trafficking trainings for key stakeholders. Conduct outreach and workers’ rights education locally for populations vulnerable to labor trafficking and exploitation. Provide direct legal immigration services to foreign national labor trafficking survivors who are referred to the Center, consisting primarily of T nonimmigrant visas. Assess Center clients’ legal claims related to wage and hour and other potential labor and employment violations and worker rights. Participate in civil litigation strategy and cases against labor traffickers. Contribute to legislative policy development on labor trafficking.
