Underwriting Counsel
The candidate will make risk adverse, common sense underwriting decisions. Respond in a timely manner, to underwriting inquiries from agents. Research, analyze, and interpret statutes, regulations and opinions, court rulings by utilizing professional legal and compliance publications. Identify issues, establish transactional facts, apply legal principles and underwriting guidelines to reach a timely decision. Provide analysis and guidance on relevant federal and state statutes and regulations, court rulings, opinion letters to the agent network. Research/update new/changing laws/statute/regulations that could affect the risk of the company and communicate those effectively to agents. Participate in the agent underwriting review process. Support agency with recruitment process and retention of agents. Support Claims Department with state law analysis and state practices. Participate on cross-functional teams. Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company. Prepare bulletins, alerts, memoranda, and other agent communications. Juris Doctorate Degree is needed. Should have a license to practice law. Experience with title insurance underwriting or claims, preferably 3-5 years title experience is needed. Should have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications. Proficiency with MS Office and email is needed.
