School Attorney

The candidate will provide direct, full-time professional legal counsel and representation for the Superintendent and firm's staff on school district matters. Will report to the Superintendent. Prepares and conducts litigation and administrative law hearings involving the firm's as directed or authorized by the Superintendent, including the preparation of all pleadings and trial and appellate briefs, negotiations between parties and the conduct of trial and hearings at the level of original jurisdiction or on appeal, and all other court or hearing appearances in order to represent most effectively the interests of the firm's as those interests are interpreted by the Superintendent. Supervises outside counsel and the conduct of all litigation against the firm's and firm's employees. Prepares and renders written and oral legal opinions, provides formal and informal advice and counsel, and provides research services upon request to the Superintendent and firm's Staff. Attends and provides legal advice at meetings as the Superintendent may direct. Provides legal assistance in the drafting of legal documents, policies, rules and regulations, resolutions, applications, and all other legal or quasi-legal papers upon request. Provides legal assistance in the drafting of state legislation proposed by the firm's for presenting to the state legislature. Maintains a current file of all legislation introduced in the state legislature and interprets the impact of such legislation on firm's interests. Maintain files and supervises periodic revision of policies and rules and regulations promulgated by the Superintendent. Performs such other duties consistent with professional competence as the Superintendent from time to time assign. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.
