Human Resources Director
The candidate will ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, as well as client requirements, including EEO, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, ERISA, Department of Labor, worker’s compensation, OSHA and others, and coordinate with the ABSD and ROAD. Prepare and submit appropriate filings (e.g., EEO-1, OSHA, Medicare, etc.) when required. Work with firm’s employment law counsel when necessary. Work with hiring managers, ABSD and ROAD to understand and execute the firm’s human resource and talent strategy as it relates to current and future professional staffing needs, recruiting, retention and succession planning. Develop job descriptions, source candidates (directly or through agencies), review agency fee agreements, schedule interviews, develop offer terms and extend verbal and written offers, check references, ensure update and implementation of HRIS/Payroll components, etc., maintain EEOC tracking, compensation analysis. Establish and maintain orientation program for professional staff. Prepare orientation packages and meet with new attorneys and staff members. Ensure awareness of firm policies, systems and procedures, and coordinate training and introductory meetings for other departments. Enter new employee in HRIS system and e-Verify system. Coordinate support staff performance review process with the Administrative Leadership Team and administer compensation decisions. Monitor comparable job market salary data. Recommend salary adjustments, raises and bonuses when appropriate. Coordinate with ABSD, ROAD and department heads to address professional staff performance and disciplinary problems. Counsel those who are not meeting firm standards and discuss improvement methods. Guide staff through progressive discipline process. Act as liaison between employee, external employment counsel and supervisors. Document all disciplinary action and terminations. Conduct and document exit interviews with employees. Prepare HRIS/payroll information regarding salary changes, new hires, terminations, job changes, benefit elections, etc. Create reports and diagnostics as required to provide firm management with sufficient information to make informed business decisions. Work with Administrative Leadership Team to develop personnel policies for approval and inclusion in the Policy Manual and maintain and update the manual annually. Oversee and supervise Benefits Coordinator to administer benefits program including health, dental, STD, LTD, 401(k), flexible spending account, voluntary benefits, employee assistance plan and payroll deduction savings plan. Coordinate seeking new carriers or developing new benefit programs as needed. Develop a Firm-wide Wellness Program and work with Benefits Coordinator to implement sessions and educational curricula. Maintain confidential personnel files for each employee. Coordinate with payroll department on employee status changes, (e.g., address, leave, payroll, benefits changes, etc.). Enroll staff and attorneys with benefit carriers. Maintain separate files for executed I-9 forms and enrollment in e-Verify. Serve as member of relevant internal firm committees, such as the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. Maintain membership in professional organizations (e.g., ALA, SHRM, Alumni Associations, etc.) and attend scheduled conferences. Participate in AA/LAA meetings and regular check-in meetings with the Administrative Leadership Team. SPHR Certification is required.
