The Process Engineering Team Leader will report to the Process Engineering Manager. The PE Team Leader directly supervises 4-6 Process Engineers and is responsible for assuring the process-related activities in the assigned Production Unit(s). Successful growth of the Process Engineers through effective coaching and mentoring is critical to the role.

What’s the role?

The Process Engineering Team Leader is responsible for the career development, coaching and supervision of 4-6 chemical engineers in Production support roles. The Team Lead is the primary point of contact for the Production Unit Manager for Process Engineering requirements and provides technical support and leadership to improve safety and environmental performance, reliability, and profitability of the Puget Sound Refinery.

Key responsibilities include:

The Team Lead will stay attuned to Production Team and refining priorities and provide leadership in the area to insure alignment, including alignment with the threats to Availability database, the Site Business Plan, the Site Value Growth Plan, Corrosion Control Document revalidations, Risk Based Inspection assessments and Management of Change (MOC).

The Team Lead will provide leadership within the area to insure proper preparation for turnaround activity, HEMP/PHA reviews, approval of MOCs and review of Project Initiation Forms.

The Team Lead will provide leadership in the area of Proactive Technology Monitoring including, practices used, maintenance, system development/improvement.

The Team Lead will have a thorough understanding of the Ensure Safe Production (ESP) work process and ensure proper focus is given to process variables limits, including any change or establishment of new limits.

The Team Lead will actively participate in and provide guidance during unit turnarounds, pit-stops, etc.

The Team Lead will provide second level review of environmental calculations and reporting required of the Process Engineers in the area. Second level reviews will also be provided for any other calculations, etc. of a critical nature.

The Team Lead will provide for effective mentoring of Process Engineers in the area, and have a good understanding of the critical nature of this activity toward insuring the success of the Process Engineers.

The Team Lead will help to provide a site wide approach to unit optimization, problem solving, and provision of resources.

The Team Lead will also serve as a link to other sites, and Best Practices.

The Team Lead will assist as required on a 24X7 basis in response to unit upsets, outages, unplanned downtime, or other Process Engineering needs and serve as a communication link to the Process Engineering Manager.

The Team Lead will insure that back-up coverage for Process Engineers in their respective area is provided on a 24X7 basis.

Skills & Requirements

What we need from you -

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s degree is required; Chemical Engineering is an advantage

Minimum of twelve (12) years experience in refining/chemical plant technology support.

Good knowledge of refining processes in general (Crude Units, Conversion units, etc.).

Advance knowledge of process control systems and theory.

Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms as they apply to the processes being supported and of the materials, process controls and methods to mitigate those mechanisms.

Previous assignment as Project /Operations Support Engineer.

The individual must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets, computer and simulation models.
