eHow is looking for an Associate Editor to work with the eHow editorial team as we build the most helpful place on earth. We’re looking for a driven, enthusiastic editor who loves the idea of helping real people meet the real challenges of daily life. This position is located in Santa Monica, CA.
Responsibilities:
Help organize the administrative tasks of the eHow Editorial Team.
Manage content tracking against editorial and social calendars.
Vet article pitches from freelance writers and checking them against the existing library on eHow.
Collaborate with freelance contributors and bloggers to develop and execute fresh, authentic and relevant content for lifestyles-related topics.
Help innovate customer experiences across eHow through brainstorming and development of content and formats.
Work with the social team to promote content though social channels such as Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter. Actively contribute to these social media platforms to build and nurture an audience for eHow.
Work extensively with content management systems and interactive tools.
Understand and implement SEO best practices to edit and create valuable online content.
Program pages with daily, weekly, and seasonal content, supporting eHow’s Editorial Calendar (including identifying content, selecting images, writing headlines, and scheduling promotions).
Perform other editorial tasks and projects as necessary when required to support the editorial team and other business objectives.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications or related field preferred.
One year of online journalism experience with a strong writing and editing background as well as production experience with editorial calendars.
Genuinely love making content that helps people manage their real lives: Have the curiosity and energy to discover new and exciting topics across the range of everyday experiences life.
Experience with content management systems, online publishing tools and basic SEO concepts.
Clear understanding of online publishing and the competitive landscape.
Solid Microsoft Office skills.
Knowledge of Web publishing tools, such as blog software, a plus.
Understanding of and familiarity with social media, especially Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Google .
Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Efficiency, accuracy, strong organizational skills, dependability and a keen eye for detail.
Familiarity with AP style or other publishing style manuals.
