Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Integrated Energy and Market Analysis group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Flexible Plant Operations and Generation (FPOG) Leader.
Our team works a hybrid 9x80 schedule located at our Research Education Campus with every other Friday off!
Responsibilities Include:
INL will be increasing leadership and support for current and future Light Water Reactor Sustainability (LWRS) technologies and therefore, is seeking to hire expertise in the area of Flexible Plant Operations and Generation (FPOG). The position will disposition energy to non-electrical applications including development of thermal hydraulic systems, electrical relays, and process monitoring and controls interfaces, and development of control concepts and human factors to respond to market conditions rapidly and safely. Activities will include:
Analysis of safety and hazards conditions and risks up to supporting preliminary probabilistic risk assessments, development of guidance on regulatory approvals and potential revisions, support of a Hydrogen Regulatory Research Review Group
Engagement with Light Water Reactor (LWR) plant owners, operators, and engineers in team member meetings and communications; including engagement with industry users of clean energy, interaction with Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub consortia
Developing integrated R&D priorities lists and R&D plans, work structure documents, and research landmarks; reviewing and writing technical reports
Preparing and/or guiding development of technical presentations; newsletters, monthly accomplishment briefings, LWRS web pages
Support professional meetings and engaging with national and international organization and institutions
Engage industry through development and execution of Cooperative Research and Development Agreements and Strategic Partnership Projects
The preferred FPOG lead will be a subject matter expert with a background in nuclear/chemical engineering (or similar). Individual will apply ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness to implement flexible plant operations concepts and develop resolutions to critical issues. Individual will advise laboratory leadership in long-range planning of new or prospective FPOG related research and advancement.
The position will support DOE campaigns (including international cooperation activities), NRC activities, as well as existing and possible future INL reactor technology activities. The position will require the ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds and experience levels both within and external to INL.
','!*!Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. plus 10-12 years of experience in the nuclear industry, plus required work experience
M.S. plus 12-14 years of experience in the nuclear industry, plus required work experience
B.S. plus 16-18 years of experience in the nuclear industry, plus required work experience
Preferred Requirements:
Direct work experience with Nuclear Power Plant Operations, or R&D supporting plant design, construction, operations, plant simulators, plant instruments and controls, and/or Licensing and Operator Training
Working knowledge of nuclear power plant Facility Safety Analysis
Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills (in English)
Ability to work directly with sponsoring organizations
Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment
Coordination of work among multi-organizational teams
Job Information:
Salary Grade PR0500 - 250 ($160,440 - $272,724)/ PR0600 - 260 ($184,500 - $313,644)
