A law firm seeks a seasoned Senior Immigration Attorney to join its dynamic team in Oak Park, IL. Duties

  • Provide expert advice on immigration matters and create strategic solutions for clients.
  • Represent individuals, both detained and non-detained, in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Oversee and manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely progression and successful outcomes.
  • Conduct intake interviews with detained individuals at detention facilities.
  • Prepare and submit a variety of immigration applications, including removal defense, family-based immigration petitions, and other relief applications.
  • Review, assess, and make necessary amendments to immigration documents and applications to ensure accuracy.
  • Work closely with law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations to stay updated on evolving immigration laws.
  • Meet with potential clients to conduct strategic consultations and develop customized legal strategies.
  • Guide and prepare clients and witnesses for hearings or interviews with USCIS or in court.
  • Analyze cases to identify potential benefits or challenges and advise clients accordingly.
  • Draft legal briefs and motions for a wide range of immigration matters.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5-8 years of experience in immigration law, including handling family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, removal defense, detained cases, and other USCIS-related applications.
  • Skills:
    • Strong case management abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
    • In-depth knowledge of immigration law and related legal procedures, including EOIR processes and citizenship applications.
    • Proficiency with case management software is preferred.
  • Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in Illinois.

  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while also being an integral part of a team.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
